- 7:15 PM, southwestern sky – Saturn above the horizon after sunset
- 6 AM, eastern sky – Mars, Venus and Jupiter above the horizon just before sunrise, with Jupiter and Mars particularly close to each other around October 17 and Jupiter and Venus pairing up around October 25
- 10 PM, southern sky – Pegasus constellation with the Great Square asterism; 51 Pegasi, the first star similar to the Sun known to have an extrasolar planet; Alpheratz, the brightest star in Andromeda constellation, marking the brightest corner of the Great Square of Pegasus
- 10 PM, eastern sky – Andromeda constellation with the famous Andromeda Galaxy (Messier 31), visible to the unaided eye on a clear night, and its companion galaxies M32 and M110, visible in amateur telescopes
- 1 AM, eastern sky – Orionid meteor shower, appearing to originate from a point near the star Betelgeuse in Orion, peaking on the night of October 21 to 22
