Here are some of the things to see in April:
- 8:30 PM, southeastern sky – Jupiter high above the horizon early in the evening
- 2 AM, southeastern sky –Mars and Saturn rising in the sky after midnight
- 10 PM, northern sky – Ursa Major with the familiar Big Dipper pattern, the double star system Mizar and Alcor, the galaxy pair Messier 81 (Bode’s Galaxy) and Messier 82 (Cigar Galaxy), and the Pointer Stars showing the way to Polaris, the North Star, in Ursa Minor
- 10 PM, southern sky – Leo constellation with the Sickle asterism, the bright stars Regulus and Denebola, the Leo Triplet of galaxies consisting of Messier 65, Messier 66 and NGC 3628 (Hamburger Galaxy), the spiral galaxy pair Messier 95 and Messier 96, and the Three Leaps of the Gazelle, three pairs of bright stars between Leo‘s head and the Big Dipper
- 2 AM, eastern sky – Lyrid meteor shower, peaking in the early morning hours of April 22/23, but obscured by the light of the full Moon this year
