Here are some of the things to see in December:
- 1:30 AM, eastern sky – Jupiter rising above the horizon after midnight
- 5:30 AM, southeastern sky – Mars and Venus rising before dawn
- 6:30 AM, eastern sky – Saturn appearing just before sunrise toward the end of the month
- 8 PM, northeastern sky – Perseus constellation with the open cluster M34 and the Double Cluster, a pair of open clusters (NGC 869 and NGC 884) appearing close together; Cassiopeia constellation with the familiar W asterism, the double star Eta Cassiopeiae, and the open cluster M103
- 1 AM, southern sky – Geminid meteor shower, peaking on the night of December 13 to 14 with up to 60 meteors per hour visible in good conditions
