Here are some of the things to see in January:
- 11 pm, southwestern sky – Orion constellation, with the bright stars Betelgeuse, Bellatrix, Rigel and Saiph forming the outline of the hourglass figure of the Hunter, and the three stars of Orion’s Belt – Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka – pointing the way to the Pleiades cluster in the constellation Taurus
- 11 pm, northwestern sky – Auriga constellation with the bright binary star Capella and three bright open clusters catalogued by Charles Messier: Messier 36, Messier 37 and Messier 38
- 11 pm, western sky – Taurus constellation with the bright star Aldebaran, the Pleiades and Hyades open clusters, and the Crab Nebula, a supernova remnant also known as Messier 1
