Here are some of the things to see in May:
- 10 pm, northwest sky – Ursa Major with the prominent Big Dipper asterism and the Dipper’s handle pointing in the direction of the bright stars Arcturus in Boötes and Spica in Virgo
- 10 pm southern sky – Virgo constellation with the Sombrero Galaxy (Messier 104) and the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, which contains Messier 87, a supergiant elliptical galaxy with a supermassive black hole that recently became the first black hole to be imaged directly
- 10 pm, southern sky – Coma Berenices with the spiral galaxy Messier 64, also known as the Black Eye Galaxy
- 10 pm, southeast sky – Canes Venatici with the bright binary star Cor Caroli and the famous Whirlpool Galaxy (Messier 51)
