Here are some of the things to see in May:
- 10 pm, northwest sky – Ursa Major constellation, dominated by the Big Dipper asterism, with the arc of the Dipper’s handle, formed by the bright Alioth, Mizar and Alkaid, pointing towards Arcturus, the brightest star in Boötes, and Spica, the luminary of Virgo
- 10 pm, southern sky – Virgo constellation with the bright Spica, the Sombrero Galaxy (Messier 104), and the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, whose brightest members include the elliptical galaxies Messier 49, Messier 60, and Messier 87, and the grand design spiral Messier 100
- 10 pm, southern sky – Coma Berenices constellation with the spiral galaxy Messier 64, also known as the Black Eye Galaxy
- 10 pm, southeast sky – Canes Venatici constellation with the Whirlpool Galaxy (Messier 51), the Sunflower Galaxy (Messier 63), the Cat’s Eye Galaxy (Messier 94), and Messier 106
